Teachers’ homes in East Suriname still without electricity

Eighteen new teachers’ homes in Albina and Brokopondo are still without electricity, two months after their residents have moved in. Some angered teachers have notified the Department for Education that they will leave their new jobs – teaching class at primary schools in Albina and Brokopondo – if no action is taken soon.

Why the homes are still without electricity is not clear. The bill of blame is currently passed between the Department for Education, energy company EBS and local contractors.
