School doors are still closed for the 300 children in Stoelmanseiland who could not return to their seats after the recent Christmas Break when the school’s principle failed to return to re-open the school. Although initial reports, based on statements by the school board, indicated that the classrooms would commence on February 8th, this has not happened. Instead, classes are now hindered by construction works of a renovation project that started four months ago.
The school board (which is the EBGS, the Brethren Evangelical Church) and the Surinamese government are currently surveying the situation. School board director Mildred Demon says she hopes the school will re-open by the end of April.
