Black Seminole festival of the Gullah/Geechee nation to be held August 2010

The Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festival™ is the national festival of the Gullah/Geechee Nation. Each year it goes to a different area within the Gullah/Geechee Nation or an area of the African Diaspora with direct connections to the Gullah/Geechee Nation. It is hosted by Queen Quet, Chieftess of the Gullah/Geechee Nation along with the Wisdom Circle Council of Elders and Assembly of Representatives for the Gullah/Geechee Nation.

The 2010 Gullah/Geechee Nation International Music & Movement Festival™ is themed the “Gullah/Geechee Seminole Maroon Reunion.” This will be the first time in history that such a historic reconnection gathering will be held in Florida.

The event is being sponsored by the Gullah/Geechee Nation, the All Mobile Productions™ (AMP™), the Gullah/Geechee Sea Island Coalition, Broward County Library”s African American Research and Cultural Center, Devloe Park, the Gullah/Geechee Angel Network, and the Gullah/Geechee Cultural Heritage Committee of North East Florida.

The schedule is as follows:

Thursday-Seminole Journey Bus Tour from SC to Fort Mosé & Ft. Lauderdale
Stops will be made for passengers in Brunswick, GA and Yulee, FL

Friday-Seminole Maroon Tour

Saturday-Gullah/Geechee Seminole Maroon Reunion Day African American Research Library and Cultural Center & Devloe Park 2650 Sistrunk Blvd Ft. Lauderdale Noon-7 pm including:

Gullah/Geechee Seminole Maroon Lecture
Gullah/Geechee and Seminole Musical and Dramatic Presentations
Traditional Craft Artists and Vendors
Gullah/Geechee Cuisine
“Gwine Be Free!-The Journey from Gullah/Geechee to Seminole” Exhibition

Sunday-Gullah/Geechee Seminole Maroon Reunion in the Bahamas 8 am to 10:30 pm
Historic Seminole Maroon Tour will take place in the Bahamas. (Call or e-mail to book a space.)
